Homemade Diaper Spray Solution and Butt Balm for a natural diaper change

I’m a cloth diapering mama, and a huge fan of cute fluffy bums! I’m sure the future will hold a few posts about cloth diapering. Today, I am bringing you a reader request for the recipes I use for my diaper spray solution and butt balm. Both of these items are all natural, and the balm is cloth diaper safe too.

I want to start off with the diaper spray, because, it is the easiest to make. I usually make a large bottle full. In turn, I fill a smaller spray bottle that I use to either spray the cloth wipes or directly on the little man’s tush.

Natural Diaper Spray Solution

Ingredients

Dr. Bonner’s Castille Soap Baby Formula- 1 tablespoon

Sweet Almond Oil- 3 tablespoons

Purified Water- fill to the top of the bottle

(The bottle I use is 16 oz)

Directions

1. Add you Dr. Bonner’s and almond oil to your bottle.

2. Fill the rest of the bottle with purified water.

You can use less oil if you want. The older Jazz has gotten, and occasionally dealing with rather sticky poo, I feel the oil helps me to wipe it off the mess easier.

Next up is the cloth diaper safe butt balm. I had been using CJ’s BUTTer in Mango Sugar Mint. I loved using this product, but I wanted to try my hand at making my own version. Something cheaper, but not inferior.

Natural Butt Balm

Ingredients

Coconut Oil- 1/4 cup

Beeswax- 1/4 cup

Sweet Almond Oil- jar use: 1/4 cup

It will melt with the warmth of your hands, but will be messier to use in my opinion.

stick use: 1/4 cup + 1 1/2 tablespoons

Because, it will be applied with a stick, instead of your fingers, the extra almond oil allows it to spread easier.

5-7 drops of essential oils (optional)

I used my old CJ’s BUTTer stick, but you can use a clean, used deodorant tube instead.

Directions

1. Melt your coconut oil and beeswax. You can do this in a small sauce pan over the stove, or a glass jar in the microwave. If you use the microwave I’ve heard it is recommended to do short 30sec bursts and stir in between.

2. Stir in the sweet almond oil and essential oils.

3. Allow the mixture to cool for a minute before pouring into your container of choice.

Any extra can be saved in a small jar and melted down and added to your next batch.

  3. Can I use the lavender Dr. Bronner’s for the spray? I know the website says all of the different types are “gentle formulas” but I just wanted your thoughts on it.
