I use my reusable cleaning wipes a lot, but when it comes up on my schedule that it is bathroom cleaning day or time to deep clean the kitchen I opt to use this homemade disinfecting spray let it sit for a bit and wipe it up. Of course, I use a clean rag instead of paper towels to keep it green.
Directions and Ingredients
1. 2 cups water
2. 4 tablespoons of white vinegar
3. 10 drops tea tree oil
4. 10 drops lemon oil
(I had lemon eucalyptus on hand, but usually use straight lemon)
I’ve mentioned before on here and on twitter, and via instagram that I cloth diaper Jazz. Today, I want to share how I save even more money on my diapering expenses by using a homemade laundry detergent. Since using this recipe I found from Fresh Idea Mama I have not had any issue with my cloth diapers (clothes for that matter too) coming out clean and fresh smelling. All I do is dump the ingredients into a large mouth mason jar, close the lid, shake it up, and use 1 tablespoon per cloth diaper load. I up it to 2 tablespoons for my regular laundry loads. You can add a few drops of essential oils if you would like. I use whatever I have on hand, but lately I’ve been loving lemony scents. I currently have a batch of laundry detergent with a lemon, eucalyptus scent. The mason jar I use for storage is large enough to make a double batch.
I have two kids and number three is on the way. Stuff happens and messes are made. This is just an inevitable fact of life with kids. When cleaning up after whatever spills and stains come my way I like to be as kid friendly as I can be. I have shared with you my green daily shower spray, and today I leave you with what I used to clean up this stain I found in the kids room. Honestly, I can’t tell you the origins of this mystery stain, or even how long it has been there. I can tell you that I cleaned it up rather easily, and without any heavy-duty commercial cleaners. I wish I had an after picture to share with you, but I scrubbed this mess away right before Jazz’s nap. I forgot to get a picture later, but I assure you that mess is gone.
Ingredients and Directions
1Tablespoon Baking Soda
3 Tablespoons Vinegar
2 Cups Water
Dump the baking soda into your spray bottle. Carefully add the vinegar to the bottle. I use a funnel when making this, and a bigger than necessary bottle. When adding the vinegar the mixture will fizz some. Add in the water, swirl it around, and spray on stain. I use a scrub brush to help clean up stains, but a rag would work just fine too.
Let me know if you have success with an otherwise stubborn stain. I’ve used this on some stains that I know have been around for an embarrassingly long time. I’ve used it without a problem on kid stains, pet messes, dried-out dirty foot prints, and many other spots and stains!
I’m also doing what I can to save money in all aspects of my life. I have been making a lot of my own cleaning supplies, as well as, beauty stuff too. Recently, I shared my recipe for homemade rosemary shampoo, and a reader request for my diaper solution spray and butt balm. This week I want to share what I am using as my daily shower spray.
Steps 1-3 are optional, but I do not personally enjoy the scent of vinegar. These steps give it a citrus scent and help cut through soap scum.
1. Enjoy 2 oranges or 3-4 clementines or tangerines!
2. Place citrus peels in a jar, and pour in vinegar until full. Recap jar
3. Let this jar sit for about 2 weeks. Whenever I’m around the jar I shake it up a bit, but this is an unnecessary part of the recipe.
4. Strain vinegar into your spray bottle.
5. Add the required amount of water.
One part vinegar to three parts water.
6. Spray surfaces after each shower. I’ve also been told that if you add a few drops of a citrus oil it will help dirt slide off when the walls get wet during your shower.
